Alzheimer’s and Dementia Difference
The difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s is become a common question. Actually, it’s confusing. Because of Alzheimer’s has become such a loaded word, so many people prefer the word dementia. Using word Dementia would be less frightening to many people, and now even the experts have started using the words interchangeably.
In the fact, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia are two very different things. Dementia is a symptom that means the symptom of a deterioration of intellectual abilities resulting from an unspecified disease or disorder of the brain and Alzheimer’s is one disease that causes dementia. Many others can cause dementia (dementia symptoms) such as illnesses Parkinson’s disease, stroke and even dehydration.
By understanding dementia, people will understand that it’s treatable and curable. But dementia treatment sometime can be complex. For example, if you received a diagnosis of dementia, it’s doesn’t mean you received a diagnosis at all before you can determine the root cause as above explanation. Sometime, if you diagnosed dementia, you have to get a second opinion. Because of too many symptoms, you must get the best physician to differentiate between all the possible causes of dementia. And the either way you should consider, a skilled geriatrician or a neurologist who is comfortable with seniors would be a good place to start.
